The Museumn Night II is now in the cinema. If you ask me, I prefer the first one. Story flew better in the first movie. It told the audience about 80% of the stories that one might get out of the two. The good part about the second movie, which is also true for the first, is that it is interesting. We had a great fun watching it. It evoked my curiosity to the history, especially to where those figures in the movie were living.

Like many other American movies, The Museumn Night II tried to convey the American values. Well, maybe these values are not really unique in the States. They did make it a big theme in many of their similar movies. They said that it is important to understand who you are and be exactly who you are. Work is not only a way to earn one’s living, but should also make enjoying it possible. One should always understand what is really important in his career. The reason of doing a particular job is not necessary the same as the stereotype may suggest. From time to time, the movie tried to bring up these themes by confronting Larry with questions on talent, work and happiness. It ends as Larry and his crew won the battle and, more importantly, he finally recognized what really makes him happy. These may sound old if one has watched enough number of American movies. But it is always good to have a reminder.

The worst part of the second movie came with the flaky love story. In the first movie, the chemicals between Larry and the museumn tour guide lady built up but didn’t further develop. The girl disappeared in the second movie. Instead, the love story was stared by the first lady pilot who flew across the Atlantic Ocean. I don’t have any problem with a love story in a comedy. It is how they inserted it that gave me trouble. I said “inserted” in the most honest way. At a random time and in a random place of their adventure, the flirting slipped in from nowhere. One may even start wondering whether some naughty kid had grabbed the TV remote control, pressed a random key, and changed the channel to another one where a totally different movie though, by the same stars, is showing. Later on, it appeared that the commercials had finished. The parent took over the remote control again. Their adventure in the musuemn continued. What a convenient shift!

As mentioned earlier, the movie was of a great fun. New history figures and new museumn were impressive. Hilarious conversation became jokes after the movie and repeatedly brought us laughter. I feel it a good choice for the night and certainly will recommend it for refreshment.
