      曾经很简短地告诉亲戚朋友我正在做的事情：多媒体环境下的认知。详细一点的话就是：在多媒体信息环境里，人是如何在无需费神思考的情况下，就能预测短期内即将发生的事情？而我们的大脑又是如何实现这种预测未来的能力的？以下的例子，则是更加详细解释我们是如何预测未来的：

Consider the following example from the daily life: A person is sitting on a city bus and watching the traffic through the window, when the bus picks up a few passengers at a bus stop. After a while, there is a sequence of beeping sounds from the door, announcing that the bus door is closing. Usually, the beeping sequence is followed by an impact sound from the door signifying that the bus door is closed. However, the impact sound is not heard this time and the door opening sound occurs instead. Possibly the sensor near the door has detected that some passenger is still walking through the door. It has forced the closing door to open again. The person on the bus, who might have an expectation of the sound sequence that has been violated, might turn to look at the doorway with curiosity. It is also possible that the person on the bus is unfamiliar with the environment and thus has no expectation that an impact sound follows the beeping sounds. Or that he cannot tell the difference between the door opening and closing sounds, and thus thinks the door is closed as expected.  If he sees a passenger running toward the bus door during the beeping sequence, the absence of the impact sound and the presence of the door opening sound might even be expected. This example shows that we have the ability to generate expectations of events in the near future even without attention. It also reflects that the expectation and the categorization of the event can be affected by various factors from both us and the environment.
